Like we have higher priorities than defending ourselves! This thinking got us into the mess we are in today with a crippled military starved for funding for 50 years. Extremely short sighted in the current political climate.
I'd like to receive more comments from Mike Palecek. I'm unable to subscribe b/c of being frauded & making mistakes in regards to our GST & property tax we couldn't afford anymore. But we cleared our larger debt consolidation after 6 yrs of consistent payments. So we'll be good soon. But plz add me to your list. My friend's Grandfather built ships in Halifax. It's quite an art ! I've been appalled w/hos little Canadian gov'ts have cared about our defense budget for decades! It's not only about machinery. It's about industry, playing trained w/discipline in military careers. I've had MM any friends & relatives who had training through this option & the change it brought to their lives is more remarkable than any other platform.our Canadian attitude sure changed on a dime when the Orange Turd --DT fake US Pres wanted to annex us & charge huge tariffs on us. That was good to see but sportsmanship lacks as when we boo an American anthem.I'd say get even by winning which we did ! Hopefully we'll keep winning! I'm both proud of our support of Ukraine & Ukrainians having grown up w/many in Sask. My hubby voluntarily played pro Trumpst w/their Poltava ensemble. We have the greatest Dancers in the world
Interesting article. My two cents. I think you're partially right. In my view, Canada will continue to need a traditional military. The threat from the US is real, but I do think US politics is going to start to reign in Trump's foreign adventures. The stock market, interest rates and inflation cannot be resisted.
That said, I do think the US will cajole the Danes out of Greenland. Thankfully, Canada is a much bigger fish to fry. Nevertheless, I do think we should be doing some of what you're proposing.
Here's what I would propose:
- I would drop the number of River Class destroyers down to 12 from 15.
- I would purchase no more than 7 submarines (not 12 as is being proposed)
- I guess we cannot get out of the F-35 contract. I would purchase the minimum and then buy the more affordable Gripen (say 65 units)
- I would continue to build out the CAF as a multipurpose force, but within this, I would build out a strong component that focuses on irregular warfare. In addition to JTF-2 and CSOR, a third CANSOFCOM unit should be created that focuses exclusively on guerrilla warfare and training the population on this kind of fighting (the Green Berets do this in US). In addition, every Reg Force infantry battalion should train a company in this kind of fighting, and every infantry militia unit should receive regular training of this nature. Complementing this, there should be weapons build-ups across the country that would support insurrection-type operations.
- Finally, the CAF should invest heavily in drones, man-portable anti-air systems, and man-portable anti-tank systems. Regarding drones, we should undertake a national effort to create platforms that are built in Canada in several locations.
This will likely require Canada to go above 2 percent in defence spending. So be it. If we need to go to 2.25 or 2.5, we should if that means we're able to defend ourselves properly both in Canada and abroad.
Substack seems to be getting invaded by these Propoganda Preachers today. Second one that has infiltrated my feed with extremist Russian disinformation. PP must be really feeling the squeeze. 🤣
If I may add a couple of things. Who needs bachelor degrees? We have a dearth of tradesmen and tradeswoman.
On to defense
Intensive training in building IED's? And then "best practices" in implementing them.
Scrap the destroyers, try purchasing antiship missels, and drones. Since the liberals are going to outlaw more guns, perhaps that new gun law needs to be rescinded.???? Just saying...
Sounds like Russian disinformation strategy very well organize to destabilize the public opinion who are you MikePalecek
Def not a Navy expert.
Hate the timeline though

Maybe the Irvings should step up.
You’re full of shit. Not obsolete. Not even going to bother with the rest of the disinformation in this post.
There is no sense of urgency in Canada until it is too late. This mindset really needs to go away.
What a long list of bullshit

We severed relations with the US today . We better be spending a whole lot more or you can learn about NASCAR and jump your cousin.
Might be worth doing some serious fact checking on this one!

Definately the ruzzian ministry of cyber warfare and propaganda/ disinformation
New world order what a joke.
Take the fucking word order out.
This is the typical Canadian reaction to any military spending. “We should have spent it on healthcare!”
Great Article

Add more as you see fit.
It is even worse than this.
